The holidays will be here before you know it, and there’s just something extra special about shopping local this time of year.  Whether you’re looking for a special experience, a unique item, or even just to support local, we’ve got you covered at the Rowe with places like Frock Candy, Peregrin’s Home Store, and Paris Parker!

We talked to a few people around the Rowe and on social media about shopping local.  Here’s what they had to say.

Lauren with Frock Candy

Tell us about you!
I’m 21 years old, I’m from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and I study Marketing at Louisiana State University (Geaux Tigers!). Tailgaiting at LSU games, going to concerts, and going shopping are my favorite things to do around town. I started working at Frock Candy when I was a freshman at LSU, and have been with the company ever since. I’ve worked many different roles at Frock, and I currently serve as their Social Media Specialist. Did I mention that working at Frock Candy has turned me into a shopping addict? I love building my wardrobe to alternate between every style, season, and trend.

Pick one: Suede or leather booties?
I would go with leather booties over suede. Leather adds more excitement to the outfit, and it is easier to keep clean!

Thanksgiving is this month! What’s your go-to look?
My go-to Thanksgiving look would have to be a skirt, a sweater, a pair of booties, and a felt hat.  I like pairing my sweaters with skirts rather than jeans this time of year since it usually doesn’t get that cold here in Baton Rouge! Incorporating fall colors and fabrics into your outfit can create a festive Thanksgiving look that’s Louisiana weather friendly.

What’s one thing about Frock Candy that you wish more people in the Baton Rouge area knew?
I wish more people around Baton Rouge knew that we sell such a wide range of clothing. We carry things for people of all ages with different types of styles. Everyone can find something they like in our stores! Whether it’s a dress, a pair of sneakers, a necklace, or an entire outfit, you’ll find something you love. No matter your age or aesthetic, we can get you ready for your next event!

What cold weather look are you most excited about rocking later this year?
I’m really excited to wear tall, heeled boots this winter. There’s usually not many days in the season that it’s cold enough to break those out, so I take advantage of the days that it is! I like pairing them with jeans for a casual look, or a skirt and a dressy top to dress them up. Either way, wearing tall boots always makes me feel super sassy!

Anything else?
Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone when it comes to fashion. Have the mindset that you can wear anything, and you will rock whatever you put on!

Pick one: Table cloth or table runner?
Table runner are more decorative and visually appealing.

Thanksgiving is this month! What’s your tablescape look like?
My tablescape is an assortment of natural elements like blue and white pumpkins, seeded eucalyptus, pinecones, and acorns. These all work together to make a magical and soft table when mixed with my white dishes.

What home accessory is a must for Thanksgiving?
There are several accessories to have in our store for Thanksgiving. One must have is our beautiful artichoke bowl. It’s a white ceramic bowl that comes in two sizes. It’s great for a center piece on a dining room table or a kitchen island. You can put an arrangement in it or just add pumpkins.

Anything else?
You can never go wrong with too many accessories in your home.

I love shopping locally because I know I am going to find unique products and I am supporting the community.
