Who else loves decorating for the Holidays? I am never one to start pulling out Christmas before Thanksgiving, but we bought a new tree this year and once it arrived I couldn’t resist putting it up.
Before we all get consumed by the hustle and bustle this time of year can bring, I wanted to share how to create Holiday memories at home. Some memories I still hold onto this day are from visiting my grandparents homes around the Holidays. One of my biggest memories are actually different smells that Immediately bring back those Holiday memories from my childhood.
There is something about Holiday cooking and baking that is just so comforting. My Maw Maw would always make chicken and sausage gumbo for Thanksgiving and even on Christmas Eve. If I think about it, I can still smell her gumbo today. Now, my granny was an all around great cook and baker. The one thing I remember and have tried to recreate is her 1-2-3-4 cake. I swear she had a secret ingredient because every time I make it, it’s just not the same. Mmmm but the smell of that rich chocolate icing was so intense I can smell it now!
So, How to create Holiday memories at home. For me that would be filling your home with smells to remember for years from now. This Apple Cider doughnut mix from Sur la Table is so easy and made my home smell delicious! The kids kept asking for more until we finally ran out. I’d say we enjoyed our Sunday doughnuts. Sur la Table has plenty of other Holiday desserts that would be perfect to create Holiday memories at home.
How to create Holiday memories at home. I’d say there are plenty of different ways, but as a now almost 30 year old I’d say the smells that filled my grandparents home stuck out the most. They bring back those joyful memories I had with them. I can only hope my kids have the same Holiday memories at home.
