Who else loves decorating for the Holidays? I am never one to start pulling out Christmas before Thanksgiving, but we bought a new tree this year and once it arrived I couldn’t resist putting it up.
Before we all get consumed by the hustle and bustle this time of year can bring, I wanted to share how to create Holiday memories at home. Some memories I still hold onto this day are from visiting my grandparents homes around the Holidays. One of my biggest memories are actually different smells that Immediately bring back those Holiday memories from my childhood.
There is something about Holiday cooking and baking that is just so comforting. My Maw Maw would always make chicken and sausage gumbo for Thanksgiving and even on Christmas Eve. If I think about it, I can still smell her gumbo today. Now, my granny was an all around great cook and baker. The one thing I remember and have tried to recreate is her 1-2-3-4 cake. I swear she had a secret ingredient because every time I make it, it’s just not the same. Mmmm but the smell of that rich chocolate icing was so intense I can smell it now!
So, How to create Holiday memories at home. For me that would be filling your home with smells to remember for years from now. This Apple Cider doughnut mix from Sur la Table is so easy and made my home smell delicious! The kids kept asking for more until we finally ran out. I’d say we enjoyed our Sunday doughnuts. Sur la Table has plenty of other Holiday desserts that would be perfect to create Holiday memories at home.
How to create Holiday memories at home. I’d say there are plenty of different ways, but as a now almost 30 year old I’d say the smells that filled my grandparents home stuck out the most. They bring back those joyful memories I had with them. I can only hope my kids have the same Holiday memories at home.
Be sure to check out Sur la Table at Perkins Rowe for all of your Holiday and party needs. They have some adorable serving trays, aprons, and tablecloths perfect for the Holiday season.
From Rouge with Love
My boyfriend Conrad and I have been dating for over three years now, and we typically stick to our favorite local places. But we LOVE trying new places and mixing it up every now and then.
So going to Texas De Brazil at Perkins Rowe was a great change of scenery and pace for us — and was an entire dining experience. I’m sharing it all today from what’s on the menu, how it works and my tips for, well, survival. You gotta go into this date night with a plan!
What is Texas De Brazil?
Texas de Brazil is a churrascaria restaurant, which basically means it’s a steakhouse on steroids. There’s a serve-yourself salad bar and hot bar and ALL YOU CAN EAT meats delivered to your table.
The menu is one-price ($42.99) for all you can eat. Or you can opt for just the salad bar ($24.99). There’s also a separate drink menu and dessert menu — which you should totally include in your budget.
Navigating The Salad Bar + Hot Bar
Once you’re seated, you’re free to start your journey at the salad bar. There you’ll find over 40 options of things like Couscous Salad, Sushi, Smoked Salmon, Manchego Cheese, Shrimp Salad, Pineapple Carpaccio, Goat Cheese Terrine, Homemade Crostini and much more.
This is all self-serve, so grab a plate and load up — but be careful that you don’t eat too much! Remember, all you can eat meats are headed to your table.
There is also a self-serve hot bar that includes items like Brazilian Black Beans, Lobster Bisque (omg so good!), Brazilian Cheese Bread, Sauteed Mushrooms, Potatoes au Gratin, Jasmine Rice and Moqueca Fish Stew.
Bring On The Meats!
Once you’re back to your table, you’ll have mashed potatoes and bread served family style at the table. You’ll also have Cinnamon Sugar Bananas, which serve as a palate cleanser. So now the fun part starts — the meats!
The servers are buzzing around with skewers of meats. When they get to your table, they carve slices directly from the cooking skewers onto your plate.
The meat menu includes Herb-Marinated Pork Loin, Picanha, Brazilian Sausage, Leg of Lamb, Chicken Breast Wrapped in Bacon, Alcatra, Lamb Chops, Filet Mignon Wrapped in Bacon (my personal fave), Parmesan-Crusted Pork Loin, Garlic Picanha, Braised Beef Ribs, Barbecued Pork Ribs, Parmesan Drumettes, Filet Mignon and Flank Steak.
You can also make a “special request” at any time. If you had a meat you love, you can ask them to bring it to you again for seconds… or thirds.
There’s a little card on your table to flip over, which tells the servers you’re ready for more! Basically, the green side means go (aka… bring me all the meats) and the red side means stop (aka… I need a minute to breathe).
We kept ours on the green side until the very end, which in hindsight we probably should have slowed down a bit because saving room for dessert was TOUGH!
So one tip is to pace yourself.
Save a little room for Dessert
We were stuffed but there was no way we could turn down dessert after the server brought every single option to our table for us to choose.
The dessert menu includes Carrot Cake, Brazilian Flan, Pecan Pie, Brazilian Papaya Cream, Key Lime Pie, Crème Brûlée, Coconut Chess Pie, Bananas Foster Pie… and our top pick: the Cheesecake. Somehow we managed to eat every single bite.
What To Expect After
You’ll be REALLY full, so don’t plan too many activities after dinner. A good option would be to walk down the street to the Cinemark to catch a movie. Or grab an after-dinner coffee at Starbucks.
My Top 3 Tips For A Successful Texas De Brazil Dinner:
1- Go Early
Our reservation was for 4PM, which was PERFECT. It wasn’t crowded, which means we got great service with little wait time. Plus, going early means you can make it a one-meal day. We skipped lunch and had an early dinner.
2- Eat Light Before
I’ve heard of people fasting the day before they go to Texas De Brazil. While you might not need to take it that seriously, I do recommend eating breakfast and skipping lunch or just having a snack to hold you over.
3- Wear Comfortable Clothes
Stretchy pants might not be appropriate, but wear your next closest thing. Skip the tight-fitted shirts and dresses.

Hey Perkins Rowe! I am back this month to share about the best day to hit up the Rowe. Tuesdays of course! Here’s why you need to come out to Perkins Rowe on a Tuesday.
1. $5 Movies!
When I found out Cinemark offered $5 movies on Tuesdays we had to take advantage of that amazing price. So, all day every Tuesday you can see any movie for $5. Movies with kids can cost…well a lot, but we take advantage of this amazing deal as often as we can. Thankfully Michael has gotten to the age where he will sit through an entire movie. The trick is to always have snacks on hand. Can you tell from these pictures that he is obsessed with popcorn? We had to get extra just for him!
2. $2 Pulled Pork Sandwiches
If you thought the $5 movies was a deal, then you will really love this $2 deal! VooDoo BBQ, which is right next to the theater, offers $2 pulled pork sandwiches all day on Tuesdays! I love that they put all of their BBQ sauces on the table. I literally tried a different one with each bite. My kids are actually very picky when it comes to food, but they loved every bit of the pulled pork sandwich. I literally had to steal bites because they wanted it all!
Do you plan on heading to Perkins Rowe on a Tuesday? Make a date of it! You can check out the delicious $2 pulled pork sandwiches from VooDoo BBQ and Grill then walk right over to the movies for their $5 movies. Wow! Dinner and a movie would cost you less than just a movie any other day!
Are there any movies you are looking forward to seeing? I can not believe I still have not seen Crazy Rich Asians! That will definitely we the next movie I see at Perkins Rowe on a Tuesday.
Hope you all head out to the Rowe next Tuesday!
Hey, it’s Leslie with Southern Flair, and I’m back this August to share some of my new favorite game day finds at Perkins Rowe. Today, I’ve found THREE LSU T-shirts all under $100 total at Alumni Hall!
Alumni Hall is open year-round, but this time of year — so close to football season — is when you can’t resist going in. The store is PACKED with LSU apparel, gifts and accessories.
Shopping for the entire family at Alumni Hall is no problem at all. You can find men’s apparel (like LSU polos, button downs and tees), women’s clothing (like blouses, tees and dresses) and kids’ and baby clothing. There are even raincoats, jerseys and workout apparel!
Plus, there’s no shortage of other game day necessities like mugs, jewelry, hats, socks, home decor — you name it! There are some great gift options if you’ve got an LSU fan on your Christmas list too (never too early!).
If you’re like me… I like to have new outfits for every game day! So this is the time of year I start planning for home games and away games.
When it comes to home games, the number one rule is to really stay cool, right? You know it will be HOT outside, so go for light layers and sleeveless options.
For away games, this is when I go mostly with t-shirts and shorts that I can wear for my normal Saturdays like running errands or brunching before game time.
The three tops I picked today all cost less than $100 total! Each one was around $30, so you can’t beat the price. Plus, I loved how unique each of these tops were!
1- Purple Vintage Wash Tee
I wish the Internet was more advanced so that you could FEEL this tee. It’s SO soft!!
This tee has been dyed so you can see the subtle variations in color and shade. It gives it that vintage tee look.
Plus, I’m a fan of the cuffed sleeves — especially when it’s sewn like that and you don’t have to keep rolling them yourself!
Grab this one at Alumni Hall for $30. I’m wearing a size small for reference.
2- White Boyfriend Knot Tee
The flowy loose fit of this tee makes it PERFECT for hot game days. It’s oversized boxy design makes it so light and airy. Plus, I loved the trendiness of the knot tie in the front. It adds a fun little spin to a classic game day shirt.
Shop this one at Alumni Hall for $35. I’m wearing a size small for reference.
3- Colorblock Tank
This was my favorite tank find of the day! It almost has a dry-fit feel, so I know you’ll stay cool on game day. Well, as cool as possible any way! I know this will double as a workout tee for me too! So I’m getting double use!
Shop this tank at Alumni Hall for $30. Size up for this fitted style. I’m wearing a size medium for reference.
There ya have it — three game day tees for under $100 total! Swing by next time you’re at Perkins Rowe and show us your game day finds with #ShowYourRowe!

Hey Perkins Rowe!
Summer is officially in full swing, which means longer days filled with fun in the sun. I am the first one to admit that I am never really prepared for the long days; which is why I have decided to have a Summer bag packed in my car with some Summer necessities.
As a mom, I feel like I always have the kids needs for the day covered, but I am riding the struggle bus when it comes to myself. So, what is in my Summer bag?
1. An insulated water bottle. This one I picked up from Charming Charlies and absolutely love the flower detail, but the saying on the side could not be more real. “mommin’ aint easy” Ha! It’s definitely not easy but 100% worth it.
2. Mirrored aviator sunglasses. These were a steal for only $16 at SHADES. SHADES offers some gorgeous designer sunglasses, which I have my eyes on a few pairs, but when out and about with the kids I need a pair that I don’t mind getting little finger prints all over. These are great!
3. SPF! I also picked this up at SHADES and I was so happy I spotted it before I bought my sunnies. As I am getting older I am quickly learning the importance of sunscreen. I never thought it was necessary, but wow! Probably the most important thing in my Summer bag after H20!
4. Flip Flops! Ok, this is something I don’t technically keep in my Summer bag, but I do keep them in my car. The Flip Flop Shop has some really great (and COMFORTABLE) flip flops for everyone in the family. I like to keep a pair in my car because you never know where we might end up on these long Summer days. Anything that includes getting wet is always at the top of my kids list.
One other thing I really wish I could keep in my Summer bag to snack on is a pop from Rock’N Pops! Have you had one yet? Wow! They are so delicious and they are perfect for these crazy hot days we have been having.
